Soldier wins medals by talking, not fighting

"One of a three-man team, Scott supported the 2nd 325 Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, as a "cultural expert."
That meant living and working among the Iraqi people, developing relationships with everyone from children to key leaders.
"When we first got there, people were afraid," Scott said. "But they went from not trusting us to having complete faith and almost an overdependence on us. It was a complete switch.
"That was the good thing about my job. It was focused on engaging people," not fighting them."
